On Friday 28 August, nine students from Woodend Primary School attended DigiFest at Scotch College, a student led technology event designed to inspire, connect and celebrate young people in technology.

The day began with workshops led by industry partners, giving our students the chance to engage with professionals and explore new technologies.

The students then had the opportunity to both attend and lead workshops. Our Woodend students participated in a fantastic range of activities throughout the day. They coded Spheros to navigate mazes, explored virtual reality, and built and programmed LEGO robotic arms using SPIKE Prime kits. Each workshop provided a new challenge and allowed students to experiment, problem-solve and learn from their peers.

Woodend students led two workshops of their own. In the first, they introduced participants to Micro:bit coding, teaching them how to create an interactive Rock, Paper, Scissors game. They then switched platforms for their second workshop, teaching participants how to create their own clicker game using Scratch.

We couldn’t have been prouder of the way our students presented themselves. They demonstrated confidence, excellent organisation, strong communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge. Most importantly, they appeared to thoroughly enjoy stepping into the role of teacher and helping others discover what they could create with technology.

Throughout the entire day, our nine students represented Woodend Primary School with enthusiasm, maturity and pride. They demonstrated our school values wonderfully and showed just how capable, creative and knowledgeable our students are.
