Woodend Performance Team

The Woodend Performance Team was established in 2020 and is made up of dedicated Year 4-6 students with a passion for the performing arts. Originally formed to participate in Wakakirri, the team now proudly represents Woodend Primary School in Schools Challenge Australia —a performing arts event held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. As one of the event’s foundation schools, Woodend continues to play a key role in this spectacular showcase.

Each week, students come together to learn and rehearse choreography, stage positioning, and performance techniques. Their hard work culminates in an 8-minute performance that tells a story through dance, creative movement, acting, and expressive costuming—all set to pre-recorded music on a grand stage.

The team has achieved outstanding success, earning recognition across multiple categories, including Overall Entertainment, Props, Costuming, Teamwork, Drama & Theatrics, and Congeniality for their positivity and enthusiasm. They have also received national awards for Raising Awareness and Best Inspirational Story.

Event judges frequently commend the team’s professionalism, often expressing amazement that they are a primary school ensemble. Their feedback consistently highlights the team’s impeccable timing, engaging choreography, strong stage presence, and high-energy performances, with particular praise for the students’ expressive facial expressions—something they continually work on with great dedication during rehearsals.

Beyond the thrill of performing on a world-class stage, one of the biggest highlights for students is the amp-up session, where they cheer on their teachers as they take to the stage and get to meet the event’s charismatic host, Cosi!

Woodend Primary School is incredibly proud of our Performance Team and the creativity, dedication, and teamwork they bring to every performance. We look forward to many more inspiring moments on stage!
