At Woodend Primary School, students in Years 4 to 6 are encouraged to take part in our vibrant and much-loved school musical. Each year, the upcoming production is announced in term 4, and students are invited to audition for lead or ensemble roles. The audition process involves learning a short song and dance routine, with those interested in lead roles also given the opportunity to showcase their acting skills.

Our school musical is an extracurricular program that runs after school and offers students a dynamic and enriching experience in the performing arts. Through weekly rehearsals in Terms 1 and 2, students develop skills in singing, dancing, acting, and stagecraft. Beyond performance, students also build confidence, teamwork, resilience, and a sense of responsibility as they work collaboratively toward a shared goal.

Throughout the rehearsal period, students learn to bring characters to life, understand musical storytelling, and explore stage movement and presence. With the guidance of dedicated staff and community volunteers, they are supported in growing both artistically and personally.

The program culminates in a professional-style production at the end of Term 2, complete with costuming, hair and makeup, staging, lighting, and sound. It’s a celebration of creativity and hard work, showcasing our students’ talents and leaving lasting memories for both participants and the school community.
