At Woodend Primary School we value strong partnerships between students, families and staff. These partnerships are especially important as we continue to support every child to grow as confident learners who can reflect on their progress and take increasing ownership of their learning.

An important part of this process are our Parent/Teacher/Student Learning Conversations, which will take place in classrooms from Monday 23 March to Thursday 9 April (Weeks 9–11). These 15-minute conversations focus on sharing learning progress, discussing strengths and areas for growth, and setting goals together. Families are warmly encouraged to attend with their child. Written reports will be provided later in Term 2 as part of our formal reporting cycle.

Students in Years 3 and 5 are also participating in NAPLAN from 11–23 March. NAPLAN provides useful information about students’ literacy and numeracy progress and sits alongside the ongoing assessments teachers use to guide teaching and learning. Despite the recent news reports, our students did not experience disruption to their testing.

Our 24 Japanese students arrive on Saturday 21st March and will join in with numerous classroom activities, as well as building relationships with host families. We are so fortunate to have this connection that allows our students right across the school to meet and experience such a unique culture. Our final assembly with the MYOJO students will be held on Monday 30th March from 9:30am in the gym. This is always an amazing display of theatre and performances presented by our Japanese visitors.

Looking ahead, we are also exploring the possibility of introducing a playgroup for 3–4 year olds and their families, strengthening early connections with our school community. More news to come on that point, but suffice to say we have had considerable interest from local families. .

Together, these opportunities continue to build a culture of Respect, Community and Care at Woodend.

Kind regards,
