What an incredible night for the Woodend Performance Team!
On Wednesday 19 August, our 71 talented performers took to the stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre as part of Schools Challenge Australia, bringing seven months of hard work, creativity and teamwork to life in front of a huge, sold-out audience.
This year, the team transported the audience into a magical performance called The Night Shift. The show opened with a bustling crowd of tourists admiring the frozen museum exhibits. As the closing bell chimed, synchronised night guards swept through the darkened halls with their torches. Then the magic began!
One by one, the exhibits came alive — from wild and rhythmic Cavemen, to regal and sharp-moving Egyptians, leaping African safari animals and high-stepping Cowboys. The performance concluded with a massive, high-energy moonlit party. One of the highlights was when the whole theatre was plunged into darkness, and the students danced using only torches. It was incredible!
One of the most unique parts of this year’s performance was the incredible contribution of Taya, a Year 11 student who has been involved with the team for many years. This year, she stepped into a lead creative role, helping to choreograph much of the performance, teach it to the students and organise so many of the elements that brought our museum to life.
This year, we were absolutely thrilled to receive awards for 🏆 Music and Soundtrack and 🏆 Costuming and Props. The judges also gave the team special mentions for our energy, passion and enthusiasm, as well as for our choreography and AV design. These awards and comments are a wonderful recognition of the incredible amount of time, effort and creativity that went into producing our performance.
A huge thank you goes to Taya, Mrs Najjar, Ms Sheppard and Miss Yardley for their incredible hard work, creativity and dedication in bringing this performance together. A special thank you also goes to all the amazing parent volunteers who helped us on the night and behind the scenes.
It was wonderful to look out into the audience and see so many family members, teachers and members of our school community cheering us on. Our Woodend cheer squad was absolutely amazing!
We are so incredibly proud of every member of the team and the way they represented our school — with energy, passion, enthusiasm and joy on stage, and kindness, encouragement and teamwork backstage. What a fantastic opportunity for our students.
🌟 Congratulations, Woodend Performance Team! 🌟
