Friday, 31st November was one of those great community days that remind us what makes Woodend so special. The weather was kind (after the trepidation of having thunderstorms, lightning and rain the previous evening), the energy was high, and it was wonderful to see every student giving their all and cheering each other on.

We kicked things off with the sprints — always a highlight! The determination and effort from every child were incredible. For some, just crossing that finish line was an achievement in itself, and we couldn’t be prouder of the persistence and teamwork on display throughout the day.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped make the day run so smoothly — from those who volunteered during events, cooked to provide our annual sports day sausage sizzle, or helped in the canteen, to our Parent Network and those who set up or packed away equipment. Your support and time make such a difference and truly bring our school community together.

It was also wonderful to see so many parents, friends, and extended family members still there at the end of the day, cheering on the final events and showing that strong Woodend spirit.

And of course, a special thank you to Matthew Hehner, whose organisation and leadership were outstanding. His work with our House Leaders and Captains, his preparation of students, and his clear communication with teachers, parents, and children ensured the day was a huge success.

“Woollard House” was successful in gaining the right to have their name engraved on our shield which will be displayed in the front office.

Congratulations to everyone involved — it was a celebration of community, care, and effort at its best!
