At Woodend Primary School, we believe technology should strengthen teaching and learning through purposeful and engaging experiences. Used well, it supports creativity, collaboration, problem solving, and personalised learning.

BYOD Policy Update

From 2026, our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy will apply only to students in Years 4–6, with a signed agreement in place. Children in Reception to Year 3 will use school-owned devices that are carefully integrated to support their learning. This means that children beginning Year 3 in 2026 will not need a personal device for their learning.

This change is based on research showing that personal devices can reduce focus, increase online risks, and place pressure on wellbeing. It will also help ease financial demands on families while giving children more time for sleep, play, and family connection outside of school.

Other Changes

  • From Term 4, 2025, only corded headphones may be used at school.
  • Music and media during school hours will only be accessed when directly connected to learning tasks. The only exception is for students whose individual learning plans specifically include music as a support strategy. Research shows that while music can help with relaxation, it can also reduce focus and memory during learning, including revision tasks.

These updates are designed to reduce distractions, keep students safe online, and ensure technology use remains balanced and purposeful. We thank families for their support as we continue to shape positive learning opportunities now and into the future.
