Traffic & Safety Committee 2018

by | Apr 12, 2018

Following our deputation to Marion Council last November, Governing Council is creating a new Traffic & Safety Committee to continue working with Marion Council, the Way2Go foundation, David Speirs MP, and our school community to address the traffic & safety issues that have been raised.

School representatives have recently met with Marion Council staff to discuss:

  • creating a safe, effective pick up & drop off zone / kiss & go
  • addressing existing traffic & parking in the streets around our school
  • creating safe routes to school to promote more walking & biking

We have informed Marion Council that school grounds cannot be used to create a kiss & go as we wish to preserve the Nature Play & Biodiversity areas created on our grounds through fundraising initiatives, and we also resolve that our limited oval space should be preserved for use by children and families. Our aim is to work with Marion Council to seek effective solutions off of school property.

We have also been in discussion with Minister Speirs in regards to his election promise of funding solutions to our traffic issues.

It should be noted that any solutions that we seek, including funds, are outside of and separate from the $5M development occuring at Woodend, which is aimed at improving learning spaces and STEM.

Our first Traffic & Safety Committee will take place on:

Wednesday 2 May 2018 at 3:30pm in the school conference room.

We are seeking members who will bring innovative ideas to the table, will help seek and implement solutions, and/or have expertise in the area of culture improvements (for instance an HR expert would be a fantastic addition to the team!)

If you are interested in joining the new Traffic & Safety Committee please email wpsgoverningcouncil@gmail.com or attend the first meeting.

If you have suggestions, ideas, or feedback that you would like to submit to the Traffic & Safety Committee please feel free to add your comments in the form below.
