Dear Parents and Caregivers,
What a hot but fantastic start we’ve had to the school year! On behalf of all staff, we extend a very warm welcome to both new and returning families.
Our newest Receptions have settled beautifully into their three classes, making a wonderful first impression on staff and peers alike. It was heartwarming to see so many parents attend the Cheers and Tears gathering after dropping off their children for their very first day of school, such a special milestone for families. Thank you to the parent volunteers who helped by providing coffee and tea for everyone.
Despite the very warm weather this week, students have adapted well and are taking care to make the most of shaded areas and stay hydrated during play periods when it has been cool enough to venture into the yard. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to look after each other and model sun-safe behaviours in these conditions.
Play periods have started on a positive note, with students demonstrating kindness and care towards one another. This highlights the respectful and inclusive culture we value at Woodend.
Learning support for students is already underway with our highly skilled learning support team providing valuable assistance in classrooms to ensure every child has the support they need to thrive. Classrooms across all year levels have settled quickly into their routines, with students immersed in engaging learning tasks.
We are also delighted to welcome several new students to our community. It is pleasing to see classmates step up and ensure these students feel right at home.
Our Welcome Back Assembly yesterday was a short but meaningful opportunity for staff and students to connect as we embark on this exciting year together. Our school values of Respect, Community and Care were celebrated and reinforced with reminders about uniform expectations and care for each other and our school environment.
Building Connections sessions have commenced, with Reception teachers meeting with parents to build strong home-school partnerships from the outset.
We look forward to a fantastic year filled with growth, learning, and connection.
