The Art of Photography

by | Mar 20, 2015

Taking a photo is a most common thing. We don’t think twice about most photos we take … However if we did want to take some photos that were really impressive and did want to actually say something special about our subjects and did want to communicate something important to our audience, then knowing something about visual communication  would be useful.  Students in Merry Whelan’s class are learning how to take shots that communicate something specific about their  topic.  Those students already know about perspective and head room and they understand the rule of thirds and why the subject is usually off centre in a visually appealing  composition.   They have referred to the Kodak top ten tips for further inspiration.  On Tuesday they will be taking some shots at the Central Market. What will they  be trying to communicate? We’ll have to wait and see …

In the mean time here are four  of many good shots the students have been taking.  What do you think of them?
