STEAM Week Update

by | Sep 27, 2019

STEAM Week is a parent engagement initiative.  We hope you enjoy time with your child/children to make/create/investigate a way to solve a problem in the school holidays.

The theme for 2019 is …

Do something …. make a difference!

Along with the students enjoying and engaging with science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics related activities, they will be working together in class to solve an authentic real-life problem using the engineering design process.

The engineering design process involves open-ended problem solving and encourages students to learn from failure.

Each year level of students will have a stimulus (egs. poster, video, presenter) and from this, work within the science, technology, engineering, art and/or mathematics fields to make a difference and/or improvement to their life, class, school, community or world.  It is hoped that students build an emotional connection to the stimulus to want to make a genuine difference to someone or something. The students will engage in observing, noticing phenomena, identifying relationships and patterns, posing and answering questions, designing, investigating, experimenting, trialling and re-trialling,  hypothesising and constructing or creating models/products.

Experiencing the engineering design process nurtures students’ abilities to create innovative solutions to challenges.

Year level foci:

Reception – Recycling and repurposing
