A reminder to all families that smartwatches and other wearable technology fall under our Student Use of Mobile Phones and Personal Devices Policy.
That means:
If the device can send or receive messages or calls, or connect to the internet (e.g. Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, or Fitbits with notifications), it must be:
• Switched off
• Removed
• Stored in the student’s bag from arrival until 3:05pm.
Students cannot access the device during school hours – this includes checking notifications or using remote features.
What can be worn:
Students may wear simple digital watches (e.g. those with only time, alarm, or stopwatch functions) and basic fitness trackers (e.g. step counters) provided they do not have gaming, messaging, call, or internet functions.
Devices must not be able to connect or pair with other technology. However, devices that were synced at home during setup and cannot connect independently or send/receive communication are fine, as long as they function only as simple timepieces or fitness trackers.
What families can do to support:
• Encourage your child to save their smart technology for after school or the weekend.
• Remind them to remove their smartwatch before school or turn it off and store it in their bag.
• Contact us if your child needs an exemption due to health or other exceptional circumstances.
| ✅ Students may wear basic wristwatches or simple fitness trackers that do not connect to the internet or other devices during the school day. These may include devices that were synced at home during setup but do not support messaging, calling, gaming, or live notifications. | ❌ Smartwatches or wearables that can send/receive messages, make calls, show notifications, connect to other devices, or play games must be removed on arrival and stored with other personal devices until 3:05pm. |
Thank you for supporting us in implementing this policy and contributing to South Australia’s goal of creating safe and focused learning environments.
