Last Tuesday, the 12th of August, 68 brave, hardworking and oh-so-talented Woodend students took centre stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre – the biggest indoor stage in South Australia! Our Performance Team brought the house down with their incredible piece, Vinyl to Viral, as part of Schools Challenge Australia (think: the modern version of Rock Eisteddfod).

And wow… did they shine! ✨ With energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism, our team lit up the stage. Despite being the only Primary School performing alongside high schools and specialist dance schools, Woodend more than held their own – and then some! Every rehearsal, every piece of feedback, and every ounce of hard work came together in a performance that truly made our school community proud.

🎶 Vinyl to Viral told the story of a group of modern-day teens who stumble upon an old jukebox. Suddenly, they’re transported through the decades – from the rock ‘n’ roll vibes of the ’50s, to the disco fever of the ’70s, the neon-pop explosion of the ’80s, and the hip-hop beats of the ’90s. Along the way, they experienced iconic dance moves, unforgettable fashion, and all the pop culture flair that made each era unique.

The mix of bold costumes, fast-paced choreography, and classic hits had the audience cheering from start to finish. Our goal was to entertain – and entertain we did! To top it all off, the team was awarded the Costuming, Staging and Props Award 🏆 – a huge recognition of the creativity and teamwork that went into making this performance something truly special.

This year’s success was guided by our incredible creative leads, Taya and Taylor (students from Seaview High School). They dedicated their time to choreography, selecting music, teaching movements, sorting costumes, doing make-up and coaching our students on stage presence. They were supported by our Performance Team Co-ordinator, Kellie Najjar, along with teachers Karen Sheppard and Jess Coster. A big thank you also goes to Belinda Yardley, who stepped in on the day to support with the mammoth dress rehearsal and performance. And of course, our wonderful parent volunteers – without you, this opportunity simply wouldn’t have been possible. 💜

Finally, to our amazing Woodend community – thank you for being the loudest, proudest cheer squad in the arena. Your cheers carried our team through every move! 🙌

We’re already buzzing with ideas for next year’s theme… so keep an eye out for Expressions of Interest to join the 2026 Performance Team early next year.
Until then, a huge congratulations to our performers – you truly danced your way from vinyl to viral! 💃🕺
