Year 5 & 6 Boys SAPSASA Soccer Carnival
Today, our SAPSASA Year 5 & 6 Boys Soccer Team competed in the Statewide Minor Round Carnival at the South Adelaide Panthers Football Club. The boys played five matches in a round-robin format, showcasing outstanding teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
The team’s first game was against McLaren Vale and finished in a 1–1 draw, with the boys showing great resilience to score a late equaliser in the final minutes.
Their second game against Woodcroft College was an evenly matched contest. Our boys worked tirelessly, creating excellent scoring opportunities, while the defence remained strong and supportive, helping secure an impressive 2–0 win.
In the third game against Aldinga Payinthi, the team capitalised on their chances and played some sensational attacking soccer. Confident passing and teamwork saw the boys score four outstanding goals in a convincing 4–0 win.
The fourth match was the semi-final against Tatachilla. The boys started strongly, applying early pressure and creating several scoring chances. Despite excellent saves from our goalkeeper and a determined team effort, Tatachilla’s outstanding striker proved difficult to contain. The boys showed great resilience, fought hard until the final whistle, and finished with a 2-4 result.
The final game was a playoff for third place against McLaren Vale, and what an exciting finish it was! Both teams were visibly tired after a long day of competition, but our boys dug deep and found the energy to keep the contest scoreless. With neither side able to break through, the game went to a sudden-death penalty shootout. After a tense opening round with no goals scored, our boys converted their second penalty while the opposition missed, securing third place in thrilling fashion!
Even the rain couldn’t dampen the excitement of the day. Every player stepped up, played their role, and represented our school with pride. Their teamwork, perseverance, and positive attitude were on display in every match.
A huge thank you to the parents who assisted with transport and support throughout the carnival, and to the one parent who kindly volunteered as linesman. Your help was greatly appreciated and made a real difference on the day.
While the team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the next round, they should be incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they played all day. We are very proud of them.
Well done team!
