On Thursday 5th March, our class (along with all the Year 2 classes) enjoyed an incursion from SA Water. We learnt that water goes to the ‘waste water recycling plant’ when it goes down the drain, and that there is a desalination plant at Lonsdale which removes the salt from the water enabling us to drink it.
The importance of fresh water as a resource was a major part of this information session:
“We CAN’T make water”
We discussed how there are many ways that we can save fresh water including (but not limited to):
- Turning off the taps when brushing our teeth
- Having short showers – a maximum of 4 minutes which is timed from the moment the taps are turned on
- Using the correct flush button on the toilet
- Fixing leaking taps
- Having rain water tanks for the toilet, showering, garden
- Watering plants with a watering can
