Our Remembrance Day assembly this morning was a lovely commemoration of those who have lost their lives in the service of their country during the war. Our remembrance of all those who have served or are serving in our armed forces is important time for students to appreciate the sacrifice that has been made on their behalf by many Australians in a number of wars, and is still being made today. Students were very respectful throughout the ceremony.
Georgia, Joshua, Tara, James, Shirani and Kaylee were exceptional hosts leading us through a respectful and informative service in which they explained clearly and succinctly the significant aspects of Remembrance Day, including:
- What is Remembrance Day?
- War memorials
- Poppies
- In Flanders Fields
- Laying of wreaths
- The recitation (including The Ode)
- Sounding of The Last Post and one minutes silence
- The Rouse
- Raising the flags
- The National Anthem
Jack Crook was our wreath bearer, placing the wreath next to the flagpole during the service. The Last Post, One Minutes Silence, Rouse and raising of the three flags were featured during this time. Thank you to everyone who helped to organise today.
Miley, Lily, Winter, Taylor, Jasmin and Jaeda had pre-recorded a beautiful acapella song which was played following the reading of “In Flanders Field”
