To play our role in assisting in the development of high quality teachers for future generations, Woodend Primary school is committed to providing university students with an opportunity to experience a period of classroom-based learning, with mentoring from an experienced teacher, to develop and demonstrate their skills in the classroom.
Depending on the year level of study, preservice teachers work in classes for up to 6 weeks. This term we have 9 first year and third year pre-service teachers completing a placement at Woodend. Throughout their placement, pre-service teachers will observe their mentors and begin to take responsibility for planning, delivering and reporting on classroom learning using the Australian Curriculum. With the support of their mentor teacher, a university liaison and school co-ordinator, they will be collecting and documenting evidence of achievement against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
Your child may be privileged to have a university student completing a placement in their class this term. We thank our teachers for their generosity in hosting pre-service teachers as this involves an additional workload for teachers. University students contribute positively to the life of the classroom and our students love to work with them.
