On Thursday 16 June we are holding a movie night at the school to screen the award winning documentary Miss Representation.
This film highlights the negative and highly persuasive messages about girls and women that our youth receive via the media. With ever increasing access to social media and online content our young people are saturated with overly sexualized, highly manipulated and often degrading messages that promote the idea that a women’s worth is based purely on her looks, youth and sexuality. Miss Representation delivers some confronting statistics and interviews with high profile women such as Condoleezza Rice, and explores the lack of women in leadership roles.
Opening up an important discussion point for both genders, the film offers a thought provoking look at equality, our media culture and the emotional health of our girls.
Join us for an educational and social evening. Refreshments and nibbles will be provided with wine available for purchase. Doors open from 6.30pm.
The film screening is not suitable for children. We will have a supervised childcare area in one of the classrooms for children aged 4+ however this will only be available to people that have notified us of their attendance so that we can ensure sufficient supervision.
Please RSVP via the event link on the Woodend Primary facebook page https://www.facebook.com/events/573383482844027/ or email at wpsparentnetwork@gmail.com. Make sure you let us know numbers attending in the comments and how many children will joining the childcare area.
