Each year, national Harmony Week celebrations recognise diversity and inclusion. Harmony Week is celebrated during the week that includes the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
CELEBRATING HARMONY DAY AT WOODEND – FRIDAY THE 24TH OF MARCH
DRESS UP
Students can choose to dress up on Harmony Day to show their support for an inclusive community. On this day, students are invited to come dressed in orange or items of personal cultural significance.
JOIN TOGETHER
On Friday morning, students will have the opportunity to join together and participate in games traditionally played in different countries around the world.
CELEBRATE
All classes will celebrate Harmony Day at a school picnic held in the Street and Basketball Court area, with our visitors from Myojo Gakuen Elementary School in Tokyo. Students are invited to pack their own picnic-style lunch and bring a small rug to sit on if they wish.
Harmony Week is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. During Harmony Week we celebrate the strength of Australia as a vibrant, culturally diverse community that includes the oldest continuous culture of First Nations to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. The experiences, traditions and knowledge shared enrich our communities and make Australia a great place to live. (Department of Home Affairs 2023)
