The excitement is building because most of the year 6/7’s are travelling to Canberra next week! We have been preparing for a long time now so we can’t wait to go. All of us have been doing activities to do with Canberra and looking at maps of where we are going. Some exciting places that we are going to are the Parliament House, the Canberra Zoo, the Australian Institute of Sport and so many more. Australian Identity, Democracy and Symbolism have been a main focus for the past couple of terms. We combined those three topics and our artwork skills to make a picture book about something we will be learning about in Canberra. After Phil Cummings had visited us we started looking at picture books and that inspired us to make our own. The Canberra trip for 2015 is coming so fast! There are not many days to go! The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $60 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate (which has already been factored into our costs for the trip) is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
