Thank you to the families who have read and returned our updated Combined Consent and Digital Technologies Agreements that came home last week.
We appreciate the time families have taken to help their children understand our Student Code of Conduct for the Acceptable Use of the Internet and School Network.
Some key messages include:
- Devices are a tool to assist with learning. Students must not use or access apps unrelated to the learning program.
- Students must seek permission from the teacher before sending any email or instant messages.
- Passwords and codes must be kept private.
- Any knowledge about offensive, illegal or inappropriate communications or websites must be reported to a teacher. Any material contained on a device that may be deemed offensive or inappropriate must not be brought to school.
Some changes to our BYOD Program Agreement in 2021 include:
- We are moving towards supporting iPads only in our BYOD program, especially in years 3-7.
From years 3-7 we require more students to bring their own devices to achieve a one-to-one ratio. Feedback over the past 2 years has indicated that, in these classes, supporting a range of devices on our network requires a much higher level of technical support and interruption to classroom learning and continuity. We have a number of options to support students with non-Apple devices. Please contact your child’s teacher or Aimee Aparicio (via email Aimee.Aparicio581@schools.sa.edu.au) if you would like more information about these options.
- In line with new guidelines from the Department for Education, mobile phones are only to be brought to school if absolutely necessary and must be switched off and kept in bags or taken to the office for secure storage during school hours.
In order to maximise learning time and reduce possible distractions, we remind parents and students that all messages or communication between parents/caregivers and students during school hours should occur through the front office.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions. We appreciate your feedback as we strive to develop students’ capability in using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively at school and in their lives beyond school.
