On Thursday 28th August, five keen technology enthusiasts from Woodend Primary School attended DigiFest at Scotch College, a unique event where students take the lead in learning, sharing their skills and knowledge.
They started the day by delving into innovative and upcoming digital tools, during a visit to the showroom. They also attended a range of student-led workshops, run by peers from schools across the state. A highlight of the day was seeing our own Woodend students’ step into the role of a teacher, with such confidence.
Charlie, Luca and Lincoln ran a hands-on workshop, teaching participants how to code a Micro:Bit to send radio messages in a fun “Spy Mission” challenge. Whilst James and Peter introduced their audience to the world of Artificial Intelligence, sparking conversations about both its exciting potential and the challenges we need to be mindful of. They then guided students through building their own Quick Draw app using machine learning.
On the journey back to school, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Not only had our students enjoyed a fantastic day, but they also grew in confidence, developed new skills, and made meaningful connections with like-minded peers.
