Dear Families,
As ANZAC Day approaches, we reflect together on the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who have served Australia. Their commitment, whether in past conflicts or current service, reminds us of the immense responsibilities and difficult decisions service people face, often at great personal risk. These experiences have had a lasting impact on individuals, families, and our nation as a whole.
This year, the significance of ANZAC Day has been brought to life in our school community through the heartfelt work of our Junior Choir, supported by Regi, Mrs Dimech, and Dave. Their project, which involved recording a beautiful rendition of ‘Spirit of the Anzacs,’ inspired many families to share stories, photographs, medals, and other treasured items. We are deeply grateful to all parents who contributed so generously; your involvement has greatly enriched our commemoration, providing students with opportunities to connect more personally with the history and values of ANZAC Day.
The Junior Choir’s recording is a wonderful achievement, reflecting our students’ sense of pride, gratitude, and the learning that has taken place throughout this project. We are proud to share this special work within our community and beyond.
As we prepare for ANZAC Day, we would like to acknowledge and thank the six families who will represent Woodend Primary School by participating in the laying of the wreath at the Hallett Cove Dawn Service. Later this term, our Year 6 students will also deepen their reflections during their visit to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, further enriching their understanding of our country’s history and the personal stories behind national events.
Supporting our veterans, both young and old, remains an important part of our responsibilities as a school community. We honour the strength and resilience of all who serve or have served.
Thank you to all students, staff, and families who continue to help make ANZAC Day a meaningful and respectful occasion at Woodend Primary School.
With respect and gratitude,
From our community at Woodend Primary School
