Changes to the Kiss’n’Go – Important Information for Families

by | Oct 16, 2022

As a school community we have a shared responsibility to keep our children safe. Traffic around our school is the subject of ongoing conversations between staff, Governing Council, families, and Marion Council. As you may have read in a recent post, Important Traffic & Safety Reminders, we have exhausted the options available through the local council to reduce congestion along this Edward Beck Drive Kiss’n’Go area.

In response to significant concerns for student safety resulting from dangerous use of the Kiss’n’Go pick up area, in Term 4 we are trialling a new system to assist parents and caregivers in using this facility as it is intended. Please read the following information carefully and share it with any family members or friends who use the Kiss’n’Go.

All students using the Kiss’n’Go in the afternoon will be required to use the gate at the western end of the zone.

Teachers on duty will support students in waiting in a designated area behind the fence until they can see their parent or caregiver in the front half of the pick up line.

Students will exit the gate when they can see that their car has safely stopped in the pick up area.

During this trial, pedestrian access to the street will be via the gate at the western end of the basketball court.

The gate nearest to Room 1 will remain closed.

Student Waiting Area – Please be patient over the coming days and weeks as we refine the safest and most visible place for students to wait. Erecting a weatherproof shelter over this waiting area will be considered should the trial prove successful.

Access to the Street is via the gate at the western end of the Basketball Court (pictured above)

The safety of our children relies on all families doing the right thing. Please take the time to drive around the block if your child is not ready for collection, consider arriving closer to 3.15pm or park nearby and walk.

During Woodend’s building works, there will be school staff requiring parks surrounding the school – Edward Beck Drive, Young Street and Bathbank Crescent.  We understand this may cause additional congestion and seek your understanding and cooperation during this time

Thank you for your commitment in helping us keep all students safe.
