Last Tuesday, our Year 5 and 6 SAPSASA Boys Cricket team took on St. Martins de Porres Primary School in the second round of the statewide schools T20 Knockout competition.
After winning the toss, our boys chose to field first. Despite an early wicket in the third over, St. Martins, last year’s final contenders, batted strongly to post 163 runs. Our team worked hard in the field, taking four wickets, with Tazzie and Maverick claiming key breakthroughs and Kieran taking a spectacular catch.
Chasing 164, our team showed great determination and courage. They gave it their all, but St. Martins’ tight fielding proved difficult to overcome, and we were bowled out for 85 with just two balls remaining.
Tazzie led the scoring with 36 runs, including seven boundaries. Lewis returned to finish not out, and Cooper hit the only six of the innings.
Taking on such a strong team was a challenge, but our team showed resilience and sportsmanship throughout. Even under pressure, they stayed focused, supported each other, and never gave up. They left the field showing great respect for their opponents and proudly demonstrated our school values of Respect, Care and Community.
A big thank you to our parent Brad, work experience student Eli, and student Jude, for their help with umpiring, scoring, and warm-ups. We also thank all the parents/carers who came to support the team – your encouragement meant a great deal.
Well done, boys! We’re incredibly proud of you.
