Harmony Week is a highlight on the Woodend Primary School calendar – a special time when we come together to celebrate Australia’s vibrant diversity and champion inclusivity and respect. The message at the heart of Harmony Week is simple yet powerful: “Everyone belongs.”
This year, we began our celebrations on Wednesday, 18 March with a special Harmony Week Assembly hosted by Miss Murphy’s and Miss Boys’ classes (Rooms 3 and 4). This assembly reflected on the significance of making every member of our community feel welcome, valued and celebrated.
Our main day of festivities took place on Monday, 23 March. The whole school dressed in orange, the official colour of Harmony Week, or wore items of cultural significance, proudly recognising our diverse heritage. We were also delighted to welcome our exchange students from Myojo Gakuen Elementary in Tokyo, strengthening a valued international relationship and highlighting this beautiful connection that enriches our school.
During the day, our Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 students paraded their fantastic Harmony Week creations, sharing messages of unity with one another. This lovely event was recorded for families to view.
With hotter than expected weather on the day, the parade was moved under the COLA, and classes gathered with their buddy classes in shady spaces around the school grounds to share lunch together.
Harmony Week at Woodend Primary School is always a powerful reminder to embrace diversity and strengthen the connections that make our community unique. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for your support in making Harmony Week a joyful and inclusive celebration.
