Soccer at Woodend is played in terms 2 & 3. We run the sport with an emphasis on participation and fair play in line with the “keys to success”.
Woodend compete under and are governed by the policies of Southern Districts Junior Soccer Association (SDJSA). Their home ground is located at Bowker Street, North Brighton.
Both boys and girls can enrol to play soccer once they are in year 2. All sides are non-competitive except for under 11 and Senior Primary Knock-out carnivals.
Each team has the opportunity to participate in their age carnival held at Bowker Street ion term3. Every child who participates will be awarded a certificate of participation from the District.
Parent volunteers are always needed either on an official capacity (coaches, referees, etc) or to assist with the running of our home games and ground preparation.
TRAINING: Days and times will be set down by the coaches and coordinator at the beginning of the season. If your child cannot attend training for any reason please advise the coach or team manager asap. Players with club commitments on school training days can be excused from school training, however, it is preferred they attend for partial sessions to ensure team bonding if they are able to. If this affects your child please speak with your coach to see what can be arranged.
Games are played on Saturday mornings on a home and away basis.
AWAY GAME TIMES vary dependent on the opposition. These times will be available before season commencement to enable parents to plan in advance.
HOME GAME TIMES may vary due to team numbers but as a general guideline they are as follows:
Under 8: approx. 8:00am kick off
Under 9: approx. 8.45am kick off
Under 10: approx. 9.30am kick off
Under 11: approx. 11.30am
Senior Primary: approx. 10.30am kick off
These times are subject to change without notice due to team numbers.
Parents are required from the starting teams and finishing teams to help with the erection of the goals. If games start late, time will be taken away from the game time to ensure other matches run on time.
EQUIPMENT: All players MUST attend training and games with soccer boots (must be plastic sprigs) and shin guards. Players will be allocated a jersey by the school to wear for the season. It is up to the parents to care and maintain this jersey and will be liable for replacement cost for any damage or loss during the year.
Children are to wear navy soccer shorts and socks in line with the schools colours.
No jewellery (including earrings and watches) are permitted to be worn on game days and all long hair is to be tied back (no braiding please).
If a player does not have correct protective gear they will not be permitted to play due to safety reasons.
Enrolments and expressions of interest to coach/manage will begin early in Term 1.
