Cricket
School Cricket is a great opportunity for our students to learn the skills of the game and have great fun with their friends representing Woodend. School Cricket caters for ALL levels, from beginners in Cricket Blast to the more experienced players in Years 4/5/6.

Our Year 2/3 students participate within the Woolworths Cricket Blast cricket programs run at Happy Valley Cricket Club. Our students from year 4-6 play in the Adelaide Strikers Primary School Cricket Competition run and administered by the South Australian Cricket Association.

Rules are modified to keep the game flowing, and to keep everyone involved, regardless of skill level.

Cricket Blast is designed for Years 2 & 3 and is a max. 90-minute game Saturday morning against a neighbouring school, always played at Happy Valley Cricket Club. All equipment is supplied by the South Australian Cricket Association and students are asked to register through Play HQ which allows them to receive a participate pack and money can’t buy experiences. Students are asked to wear school uniform, a hat and bring a drink bottle.
Older children can play either Thursday night or Saturday mornings, (for approx. 2-3 hours, depending on age) and are placed into teams of 7-9 based on age and experience. These matches are played on a home and away basis with nearby schools.

With the older grades, the parents will need to purchase cricket whites (white pants) and a protector for their child for hygienic reasons. Parents may purchase their child their own cricket equipment if they wish, but the school does have a supply of bats, helmets, pads and protectors all of which must be worn. The balls and rules are modified when compared to “adult” cricket balls.

Cricket is played in terms 1 & 4, and for year 4-6 students they will train once a week, after school – depending on parent assistance.
